Inspiration

Finding Inspiration.

Feeling inspired can happen at the strangest of times.

Sometimes it can be walking in the woods, revisiting the same areas throughout the seasons noticing the growth and die back of my surroundings. Really observing nature, sketching daily, noticing the forms and colour palettes that are put together. Taking fragments of time to invest in my imagination, lighting a candle, flicking through a magazine or old design book.

What I do know is if I order imagination and creativity into my working day I can very quickly become depleted and without inspiration, burnt out and feeling like a imposter. The more I look away from my phone and step into the wonder of spring, a upcoming bud or woodland walk the richer my imagination and therefore my inspiration becomes.

I used to think working 16 hours a day was the answer, if a idea didn’t come freely then I must work harder to find it, force it almost. But through extreme fatigue, ill health and a fragility to life at times, I have found the greatest gift I can give myself and my creativity is sometimes a hot bath in a quiet house on a rainy afternoon, lit by candlelight. Or a afternoon spent perusing a vintage market relishing the old patterns in the scarves and blankets.

These are the gems.

The gift of time. Time spent discovering who I really am and what I truly love, not what I am told to like because it is part of a trend. From that space inspiration flows.
